🔥 Oral Piercing Aftercare
Proper aftercare is key to helping your new piercing heal safely and without complications.
Daily Cleaning
- Always wash your hands with antibacterial soap and water before touching your piercing.
- Apply a small amount of antibacterial soap (such as Dial or Provon) to your fingertips, lather, and gently clean the area.
- Avoid twisting or rotating the jewelry, as this can cause irritation.
- Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry using a clean paper towel. Do not use cloth towels, as they can hold bacteria.
- Clean the area twice daily.
- For oral piercings:
Rinse with mouthwash after every meal and again before bed to keep the area clean.
Sea Salt Rinse
Sea salt rinses are an important part of the healing process. They help reduce swelling and flush out buildup from the piercing.
- Mix ¼ teaspoon of sea salt with 8 oz of warm water.
- Once dissolved, swish the solution in your mouth like mouthwash, then spit it out.
- Pat dry externally with a clean paper towel if needed.
- For the first few days, try to avoid spicy foods, acidic drinks, and alcohol, as they can cause irritation.
Helpful Information
- Do not pick or remove buildup around the jewelry. Rinse it away gently with warm water—picking can lead to irritation or infection.
- Avoid submerging your piercing in pools, hot tubs, lakes, rivers, or oceans while healing. Showering is fine.
- Do not change your jewelry before the recommended healing time, as this can cause irritation or embedding.
- Avoid using alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, ointments, creams, or any products not specifically recommended.
- Check your jewelry regularly to ensure it is secure.
- Allow your piercing to breathe—avoid covering it with makeup, lotions, or bandages for extended periods.
- For navel piercings, avoid wearing dangling jewelry for long periods and never wear them to sleep, as they can catch and cause injury.
- 99% of your friends don’t know what they’re talking about—when in doubt, follow professional aftercare advice.
